Recycled Beauty: Woman Inspired
Recycled Beauty is an ongoing series of mixed media "paintings" constructed from old discarded beauty products including but not limited to make-up, skin and hair products, jewelry and trinkets. The series began in 2009 with abstract experimental paintings on various surfaces numbering in the 70s. The idea was reborn earlier this year with the addition of a clear representational subject matter: Women. Each painting still has varying levels of experimentation within the materials, however the fragility and delicacy of some materials in contrast with the strength and durability of others creates a more interesting dialogue with the subject being women. The mini-series "Woman Inspired" bears no secrets. Each piece was somehow informed by the positive attributes of women. Whether the overwhelming joy of being a bride or a mother, or the companionship between sisters and friends, this body of work serves to encourage women to celebrate themselves and draw strength and inspiration from each other.
The first 14 completed pieces were displayed at the 7th Annual Paint the Night Pink Art and Fashion Show held October 17, 2014. For more information about the cause visit: Averathinkpink.org
