Recycled Beauty
This series of mixed media "paintings" is actually composed from a combination of old or broken jewelry, accessories, and other objects with discarded beauty products. These products include all kinds of make-up, nail polish, lotions, creams, bronzer, powders, perfume, hair dye, mousse and more. The project started with a box of old products I'd had stashed away in my closet for ages: the unused portions that I couldn't throw out but was never going to use again. Once I brought the idea around to my lady friends and relatives, I found I wasn't the only one with a box or drawer of unfinished beauty products. I took a collection and expanded the series. Recycled Beauty currently numbers around 60 pieces made from the products and objects from more than 10 women. Though most of the series was created in 2009 and early 2010, it was displayed at the Artist Against Hunger Exhibition 2011 in Sioux Falls, SD. It remains an ongoing project.
